These are some additional links on a number of specific legal problems people might experience. We are trying to include a limited number of the most useful guides to specific topics about the law. There are many more comprehensive collections of legal information that you can find at Law Access NSW, the Legal Information Access Centre, Financial Rights Legal Centre, and Legal Aid NSW Publications.

CREDIT AND DEBT

Legal Information Access Centre’s ‘Hot Topic’ on Consumer Credit covers a number of issues around consumer credit issues.

You can find many useful Fact Sheets and Sample Letters on the Financial Rights Legal Centre (NSW) website.

FAMILY LAW

The Legal Aid NSW Publications website has a number of useful factsheets and brochures on a number of aspects of family law, mostly in relation to children and domestic violence, but also as it affects Grandparents.

For Care and Protection matters regarding children, the Shoalcoast Community Legal Centre has produced an excellent guide.

FINES

The Fined Out Toolkit is a useful guide to dealing with fines in NSW.

For many traffic matters, you can get useful information from the Shopfront Youth Legal Centre factsheets on driving and the law.

CRIMINAL LAW

The Shopfront Youth Legal Centre publishes information on Police Powers online. You can also find a useful brochure on the topic from  Legal Aid NSW.

DISCRIMINATION

The Legal Aid NSW Publications website includes a booklet on discrimination law in both the NSW and Commonwealth jurisdictions. [Note the information on issues affecting employment relationships has changed and the time periods to act may now be shorter depending on the facts of your matter].

EMPLOYMENT LAW

The Illawarra Legal Centre and Legal Aid NSW have published a Guide to Employee Rights when Employment is Terminated and a Guide to Redundancy Payments outlining legal entitlements when an employee’s employment is terminated because of redundancy.

ENVIRONMENTAL LAW

The NSW Environmental Defenders Office has a number of publications concerning land and environment. The Rural Landholders Guide which looks at issues ranging from land use, fencing law, and other common issues affecting rural landholders. The Caring for the Coast booklet looks at common problems around coastal erosion.

WILLS AND ESTATES

The Legal Information Access Centre has an online book, “Guide to Wills and Estates”.The Seniors Rights Service together with Legal Aid NSW have a number of publications including “Why Make a Will“.
